Kaymich launch new twin track flavour application system "Gemini"

Picture gemini

Following the successful completion of production trials in European factories C.B. Kaymich & Co. Limited are proud to announce the launch of the new "Gemini" Twin Track Flavour Application system for the tobacco industry.

The culmination of over fifteen years development in the field of cigarette flavour application, the "Gemini" system incorporates all the benefits of the Kaymich portfolio of flavour application systems delivering clean, effective, consistent application of flavour on-line during the manufacture of cigarettes or filters and provides more besides.

The Gemini system will apply a wide range of 'hot' or 'cold' flavours to a variety of points within the secondary process of manufacture and capitalises on development work undertaken in conjunction with key cigarette manufacturers to extend and improve the capabilities of flavour application within the secondary cigarette manufacturing process.

The key aspect of the Gemini system though is twin track capability.

The unit houses two 50 litre tanks with rapid melt facility for menthol (just 1 hour from "cold" to running temperature).

The Gemini system is backwardly compatible with existing Kaymich applicators and also provides potential for application at additional points within the cigarette manufacturing process including onto the paper on the cigarette maker, into the tobacco on the garniture on the maker, into the suction chamber on the maker, into the tow on the filter maker, via flavoured thread on the filter maker or onto foil on a re-wind unit.

To find out how you can benefit from the many new functions provided by the Gemini Flavour Application System, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kaymich Lean Towards Reducing Downtime To Increase Productivity With New Side Seam Applicators

Picture extracting the needle

C.B. Kaymich & Co. Limited have extended their LEAN manufacturing principles to their product design to provide further efficiencies for users of their SN1A range of side seam applicators.

The new design SN1A range of side seam applicators offers the user the ability to change the needle and nozzle without having to disassemble the applicator. Indeed the applicator can be left on the machine during the process, considerably reducing downtime and thereby increasing productivity and overall efficiency.

Using a bespoke tool the needle is removed through the front of the applicator.

Should the integral diaphragm require changing, this too is easily done as the front of the applicator body can be removed quickly and easily to allow the component to be exchanged.

Once installed, the valve with front loading kit is the same form and fit as before the upgrade (i.e. the nozzle tip position and body envelope are identical), thus eliminating any chance of mechanically clashing with existing installations and requiring no positional adjustment.

There is absolutely no need for users of Kaymich applicators to change their existing applicators: the SN1A-FR-KIT upgrade kit (which includes the special removal tool) is available to convert their existing applicators to the new style "front-loading" applicator - and at a fraction of the cost of a new applicator.

To find out whether you can benefit from reduced lead-time and increased machine efficiency by converting your side seam applicators, please do not hesitate to contact us

Pumping Success into 2009

Picture of the PFH2000

Since launching the Kaymich PFH2000 Pump Fed Hot Melt Filter Adhesive Application System in 2007, Kaymich have supplied several units to major cigarette manufactures, OEMs and machine rebuilding companies

Designed to run as cleanly and efficiently as the Kaymich gravity fed system, the PFH2000accurately delivers a pre-set amount of adhesive up to operating speeds over 500 rod metres per minute, speeds beyond the capability of gravity fed systems.

Introducing the option of a pump to the established Kaymich filter hot melt system has ensured that customers operating at high production speeds can do so without compromising the quality of their product. Fed to the pump under gravity from the main tank, adhesive is then pumped through the heated hose to the applicator, where the set dosage amount is delivered accurately. Optimum application is achieved at both high and low speeds.

The specially designed gear pump is capable of withstanding the elevated temperatures required to melt the glue pellets. It is a fully sealed (no shaft seals) stainless steel bodied gear pump with high thermal tolerance steel gears.

Designed to withstand the high temperatures required for hot melt adhesive the pump has been specially designed to provide a consistent flow.

Coupled to the stepper motor and gearbox using a high power non-contact rare-earth magnetic coupling, it provides excellent torque. This ensures there is no slippage at the power required to pump the hotmelt.

The heat is provided by means of cartridge heaters which provide an evenly distributed and controlled heat profile around the pump, which in turn ensures a constant viscosity of melt, and therefore constant flow of glue through the system.

The pump system comes complete with a compact controller easily installed regardless of maker. The controller features a "gravity fed" mode that allows production to continue if for some reason the pump is not required.

The Control Module also offers the facility to output a signal to the parent machine to shut it down should the paper break or if temperatures exceed the specified limits.

Those who are already obtaining the benefits from a Kaymich GFH2000 will be pleased to hear that the PFH2000 has been designed around the GFH2000 permitting easy upgrade to their current system. The system can be purchased as a complete new system or as an upgrade kit to the GFH2000.

Kaymich employees raised nearly £2000 for local charity by completing the United Kingdom’s “Three Peak Challenge.”

Steve Bowns; Ian Wilkinson; Richard Parker and Jonathan Harding recently punished themselves by endeavouring to climb the three highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours and raised a huge total of £1755.50 for the local Bluebell Children’s Hospice.

The Challenge: The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis (1344m) located in Scotland, Snowdon (1085m) located in Wales and Scafell (978m) located in England.

Starting on the 18th June at Ben Nevis, the team struggled through the rain and snow to reach the top.

Although the elements where kinder on the second ascent at Scafell, the climb itself consisted of tackling rock faces through cloudy atmosphere. On the start of the final peak, Snowdon, the sun was shining and it looked like a pleasant hike. However over halfway up the sky opened to release a downpour of hail and rain.

Ian, one of the challengers commented “Although it was tiring and harder than I expected, it was a great achievement for a worthy cause.”

The Charity: Situated just outside Sheffield. Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice provides a community palliative care service available for children and their families located in the South Yorkshire, North East Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire areas and some parts of North Lincolnshire.

Bluebell Wood offers a 'Gift of Time' for the families. Three to five hours a week at a family wishes, they can receive care at both Bluebell Wood or at home in the end stages of their child's life. Support is available to all members of the family on the death of their child and in bereavement.

AFS1000 sales generated from Tabexpo 2007

Although Kaymich’s Advanced Flavouring System, the AFS1000 was only launched less than 3 months ago at the recent TABEXPO exhibition, it is already proving to be very popular, with several orders already received. The AFS1000 is the latest development by Kaymich in a successful history of over 20 years producing flavour application systems.

Picture of ASF1000

Established as the pioneers of online flavour applicators and more recently as the innovator behind applying liquid flavour into the filter tow, Kaymich have again pushed the boundaries of what to expect from a flavour application system.

Like previous Kaymich flavour application systems, the AFS1000 is capable of accurately applying a variety of flavours onto the cigarette paper, into the tobacco stream or into the filter tow. However, the AFS1000 has been developed to address customers’ demands for sophisticated software to enable more precise management and monitoring of flavour delivery.

The AFS1000 provides a wide range of parameters that can be freely changed by customers or pin locked for management control.

As an additional option the AFS1000 offers an on line data caption function to allow remote monitoring and logging of flavour application

Kaymich’s knowledge and continuous investment into flavour application development have certainly made a big impact upon the industry and are setting new standards from what to expect from a flavour application system.
